“Hartlepool does not trust Labour to look after our hospital” – inquiry report December 9, 2003
Posted by in : News , trackbackAlan Beith MP has released the initial results of Jody Dunn’s Hartlepool Health Inquiry which shows a damning lack of trust in the Labour Party over their handling of the review.
The Health Inquiry was delivered to over 40,000 houses – the whole of Hartlepool Borough constituency. Just one week later there have been over 1,000 responses already.
Alan Beith said: “This is an amazing response both in terms of the number of people who have replied and what they are telling us. It is clear that local people want a full-strength district general hospital on the Holdforth Road site, but they no longer trust the Labour Party on this issue.
“It is also clear from the response we are getting that this is the major issue in the election – Labour are trying to wriggle off the hook but the facts are that the review has plans to close the hospital in Hartlepool, key services such as A&E and paediatrics are at risk and that Labour is hiding these plans from the public.”
Jody Dunn said: “The Liberal Democrats have been consistent on this issue – we first raised it in 2001 and were shouted down by Labour, but we have been proved correct. The health campaigners in the town have done an amazing job in fighting this issue but Labour are trying to hide the facts from us.
“I am pledged to defend both the hospital and its services – there can be no downgrading. If elected as the local MP this is a cause I would never let drop.”
